DRAWING: fundamental and creative

Specific exercises in observation and sketching can greatly improve your confidence and enjoyment in drawing. Here you will start with drawing techniques using pencil, charcoal and ink . Perspective and dynamic composition will later be covered.
supply list:
  • a sketchbook- one that is large enough for you to feel comfortable sketching on location  (approx. 12"x16" or smaller)
  • HB, 2B and 6B pencils
  • free flow ink pens (black)
  • a pad of newsprint (24" x 30") or larger
  • soft gum eraser and smudger

If you are little lost or stuck in the mud with your painting, this session is for you!

Bring paintings you have been working on or start something new. Here you can work out the challenges of composition or technique in the atmosphere of a studio filled with other creative people. Each class will start with a focus on an art concept that can be used in your own work. Both contemporary and historical references will be discussed. All mediums welcome  - no smelly solvents please.

PAINTING - weekend crash course!
11am - 3:30pm
$115 for one day

In this class colour theory and brush technique will be covered. For those of you who have some experience, more advanced techniques will be covered. This fundamental class is essential for absolute beginners before launching into DAY TWO.
Here you will delve into a landscape composition in the spirit of Tom Thomson and the Group Of Seven. Examples of paintings are available or students are encouraged to buy a calendar.
In both days, there will be time for demonstrations and practise. The projects are designed to build confidence in painting AND to enjoy the creative release. There will be a short break half way through for lunch and discussion before getting back to WORK.
A starter kit ($60) may be purchased or bring your own. Please refer to supply list below.

Create your own class:

If you would like to set up your own schedule, classes can be arranged with a 10 student maximum. These are based on 2 or 3 hour sessions. Times and dates are flexible within a 2 month period. Five session periods must be paid in full at the first class.
